ecoENERGY Retrofit – Homes program

Key Features

- Budget 2011 announced a $400 million investment to renew the ecoENERGY Retrofit – Homes
  program from June 6, 2011 to March 31, 2012.

- NRCan has updated the wording in the Grant Table for ecoENERGY Retrofit - Homes
  (
http://oee.nrcan.gc.ca/retrofit/table and Appendix A), but grant amounts remain the same.

- New and past participants must register before booking an evaluation.

- SOs must not perform evaluations until homeowners provide them with a registration number.
Homeowners who are not able to register online should call 1-877-953-5454 for assistance.

- Program registration will close without notice when it appears that funds will be fully expended.

- Only upgrades purchased as of June 6, 2011, and installed after the date of a
pre-retrofit evaluation are eligible for a grant. In addition to following current
evaluation procedures, when performing post-retrofit evaluations, energy advisors
(EAs) must clearly photograph all relevant receipts to confirm eligibility.

- Participants must register, complete their renovations, obtain a post-retrofit evaluation and sign
a grant application form no later than March 31, 2012. Eligible participants can only apply once
for upgrades implemented between June 6, 2011, and March 31, 2012.

- Owners of multiple properties can now receive up to $1,000,000 over the life of the program
(April 2007 to March 2012). The maximum federal grant a homeowner can receive for a specific
property remains $5,000 over the life of the program (April 2007 to March 2012).

Registration Process for “New Participants”

- If a property has never been evaluated or was evaluated before April 2007, the homeowner
needs to register the property as a “new participant”.

- After registering, new participants will receive an e-mail (or letter, if needed) with the list of next
steps (see sample in Appendix B). They will also receive a registration number which they need
to provide to the SO when booking the pre-retrofit evaluation.

- The SO can book and perform a pre-retrofit evaluation only after the homeowner provides their
  registration number.

Registration Process for “Past Participants”

- If a property has been evaluated since April 1, 2007 and the current homeowner has not received
the maximum grant, the homeowner can register to submit one more application for
improvements purchased and installed as of June 6, 2011.

- Note that a new pre-retrofit evaluation is not required for properties that have already had an
evaluation since April 1, 2007. This includes properties evaluated under a partner program since
  April 1, 2007.

- After registering, past participants will receive a confirmation e-mail (or letter, if needed) listing
the next steps (see sample in Appendix B). Within 5 to 10 business days, they will also receive
a registration number (CID) and their latest file number (D, E or F). Homeowners will be
instructed to provide the registration and file numbers to SOs when booking their
  post-retrofit evaluation.
